Revival of LIFE!

Been a while since I last posted since my Brain Tumour surgery in 2022. Thanks for my family, I am able to heal myself, and to lift my life fruitfully.

During my MRI in July 2023, it was a sad news to know there is a growing tumour near the centre of my brain. I have been told that surgery is not advisable due to its position and the timeline as well.

It was depressing at that point as I would have to go through some treatment to my brain, in either of Radiation and Chemotherapy.

Radiation – Back in my 2015 surgery, I have done 49 days of Radiation on my Brain. I have been told that Radiation could only be done once in life as it is a way to kill cancer cells. After visiting the doctor on Radiation, they won’t agree for me to go through this new brain tumour.

Chemotherapy –  As most would know, chemotherapy is never a cure but more the extension of the cancer cells from growing. Back in 2015, I have decided not wanting to do it anymore, as it has changed my emotions so much as well as being angry at many situation. I can’t reject it back then as my tumour was growing as well as constant seizure attack.

Finally, I accepted Chemotherapy of 6 months for this treatment on August 2023.

Unlike the previous session in 2015, I consume pills for the first 5 days in the month and a 28 days cycle plus check up. The current Chemotherapy has become daily over the next 6 months.

Personally, I need to motivate myself as a Dad to bring up my child, when knowing that Chemotherapy is not a cure. I appreciate all the close friends and family to go through this journey with me.

In October 23, when I spoke to my life mentor, Steven Lim, regarding the new tumour growing on the inside of the brain. He told me about a medical supplements, SIRT6 ACTIVATOR, that have been helpful for his family and other friends too. Miraculously, that Tumour have vanished in the next MRI in November 23.

The same day, I went to the show rehearsal at Gateway Theatre and told this news to, Lawrence Khong, and it was a great blessing from God in healing my life. Thanks for the great blessings to the production team on this amazing news!

At the hospital, I was recommended to flow through my Chemotherapy for 6 months to complete this circle. In January 2024, it shows the great new of the tumour vanishing in the brain.

I am so thankful for the LIFE I am given to spend time with family and friends as well as to share my thoughts on my passion in Magic.

Although I’ve been receiving mild seizure attack nowadays, I would have to work on the right pace in life and not to stress it. Any form of challenges could be solve, think positive and be strong in LIFE!

“AFTER” Brain Tumour Sugary

“AFTER”

I went for a Brain Tumour Sugary over the last 2 years ago. And indeed accepted the surgery which is done awake. Before my thoughts for accepting to this surgery, I pre-filmed a day before the actual surgery day “BEFORE”.

“BEFORE”

Since the surgery, I took some time for me to write things down, as I was not able to read messages as well as to reply. I have been trying to motivate myself to set some goals, such as this blog.

Back in 16th August 2022, a member of our local 115 International Brotherhood of Magicians, Carson Goh, have interviewed my thoughts as well as the upcoming Brain Tumour surgery. Was glad to catch up during the recent Brain Tumour Society Singapore.

Better with Magic – Living with a Brain Tumour

Carson Goh Magician by Brain Tumour Society Singapore

After a month, It was a challenge to type up for this blog or even in mobile. But we should know that “Nothing Is Impossible”.

STAY POSITIVE!

It is common for all to experience challenges and sacrifices, but most importantly we should always “Stay Positive!”.

2020 is an epic year for the entire world due to Covid-19. It is unexpected for what is going to happen next, hence it is important for all to “Stay Positive”.

2020 Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner

I went for my yearly MRI in January 2020, and it show up a dark spot at the lower part of my Brian that could potentially be a glioma.

MRI January 2020

It was a shocking news when Prof Yeo mentioned about doing another biopsy surgery to clarify it. I rejected the biopsy then,  and the news actually affected my thoughts, mainly not wanting to have a seizure attack.

Next, being born in the year 1984. 2020 is Year of the Rat which turns out to be unlucky and challenging. As one who truly believe on “Law of Attraction”, I am facing another brain attack. Therefore, it is most important to remind myself to “Stay Positive”.

Since March 2020, the whole world is experiencing the quick transmission of Covid-19. Singapore officially declared a Circuit Breaker (Lock Down) for 2 months in April 2020. During this period, both myself and wife got to spend more time with our son as well as to transit him to new lifestyle habits.

JP Family December 2020 @ Orchard Central

In a Family, there would be difference in opinions between parents in bringing up their children. Personally, I would tend to browse through my life challenges and wanting to coach my son to avoid those situations. However, It may be easy to say, but it would be tough to make it real. Thus, we have to respect others opinion especially the mother. The most important goal, is for Family to be Happy and Healthy always.

Personally, I went on to explore more on magic and develop ideas on my passion in the art. As we are unable to travel, it has also given me the opportunity to share my magic to live audiences and magicians around the world through Facebook and other live streaming apps (Zoom, Streamyard, VMix). To me, this actually represent the brotherhood in magic around the world.

The Magician’s Confession (Essay 8) – Positive Future

2017 have been a challenging year thus far, however I felt relief upon hearing my MRI results today.

It is said that there is no growth of tumour, as well as all the other cells are stable too. The next MRI scan would be on January 2018, and that is 2 years past my surgery, radiation and chemotherapy process.

IMG_3212

MRI Brain Scan on 12th June 2017

I was also told today that as a Brain Tumour patient, I would have to do regular MRI for the rest of my life. Nothing much could be changed now but I shall not be too bothered upon hearing that. In my opinion, I would still be glad to meet my surgeon, just hoping to extend the length between each appointment.

IMG_2122

Valentines Day trip to Seoul, Korea

I am also glad to announce that I have eliminated Keppra and Tramadol medication for this year thus far, and didn’t encounter any seizure attacks. I tend to rest more upon feeling headaches and also there were a few scenes when I felt the attack would arrive, however the seizure didn’t happen.

Today, I reported to Prof Yeo that I felt my personal memory of names and icons have been weak over the past year. Indeed, he told me that the surgery would affect my memory on various topics, as I was put to sleep during the surgery. Either way, I am feeling thankful to be able to move around and share my magic with audiences around the world.

Speaking of Magic, I had the opportunity to join the local radio station, UFM 100.3, as they launched a brand new online mobile streaming app, UFM100.3 “线上直播” LIVE.  I debuted my show on the last week of 2016, on every Monday night, 10.30pm. This channel is a mobile application, “RINGS LIVE”, which you can download through Apple App store or Google Apps.  This weekly program has allowed my mind to exercise, as well as to share my passion in magic.

My most recent episode on 19th June 2017

Over this past 6 months, I have also decided to change my personal diet as well as to exercise regularly to keep fit. A lot of fashion clothes that I acquired just before surgery can’t seem to fit my body during the end of last year. The weight gain must be due to the lack of cardio workout while I was recovering from the surgery.

Today, I am glad to fit back into most of the slim clothes as well as some tops which I acquired before my surgery in 2015, while I was performing in Shanghai China. My personal formula for slimming down involve 3 – 4 times weekly jogging, low carb diet and multiple small meals in a day. This new lifestyle was a good workout for my brain too.

This year, apart from my personal health issues, some incidents that happened have not been ideal for my family. I felt all these are life challenging tasks, and it is always important for us all to focus on a “Positive Future”!

Have a great 2017 ahead everyone!

The Magician’s Confession (Essay 7) – Daily Blessing

It’s Boxing Day of Christmas! I would like to first wish everyone Merry Christmas and have a great new year ahead in 2017!

One of the best gift for me to unveil today is having the ability to live Life like a normal person, waking up to a cooling weather, and spend time with the family.

During the recent MRI scan of my Brain in the first week of December, the empty space is still stable, hence I have now manage to achieve a half yearly MRI, as well as meeting Dr. Audrey Wong and Prof Yeo at the NUH.  I have also officially received the blessings from specialist that I could stop taking daily pills that prevent seizure attacks.

The story of me meeting the accident in June 2012, followed by the discovery of a brain tumour, was published in the press on “The New Paper” as well as various Chinese Newspapers. Arranged by the Brain Tumour Society Singapore (BTSS), the reporter and media photographer of “The New Paper” visited my place for the interview and of course I share some of my magic with them.

As mentioned on the previous post, I did a live performance for the Brainy Car Rally event which was held at Suntec City Mall. I’m glad to entertain family members of the patient with magic performance, and hope the moments of amazement would make them smile. I also have the opportunity to meet Prof Yeo at the event, and certainly I got him up stage to perform an act with me too. 🙂

As I have not been active in local commercial show business for past 2 years due to health situation, I am thankful for the events I got to join in this month to share my magic. Unlike the past when I was rushing multiple shows a night in the commercial scene, now I would want to focus on bringing happy moments to guests at the event.

Apart from a stage performance, we also added a magic workshop session, sharing with them the amazing moment of magic performance they could bring to people around the world.

To me, “Magic” is indeed an art which bring people together. And certainly I would like to further explore more in this art which would certainly motivate the condition of my brain to full recovery!

Merry Christmas and have a great New Year Celebration!

Many peers I met were concern on my health and appearance, however i am doing my best to express my usual self, and hoping I would regain energy to live a normal lifestyle. At the moment, I would just need to compete with the radiation treatment aftermath, and it would stretch over 3 years. Nevertheless, I am going to stay strong and live a normal life with family and friends.

As my personal lifestyle have changed, I may not have the opportunity to live my life like the past of me actively hanging out with lots of buddies, and rushing lots to performances in a night.

However, I wish there would be more blessing coming into everyone life and live happy always. For me, I am putting more focus on my mother and wife, as they have been supporting my lifestyle choices before going through this brain surgery process.

On the 6th of November 2016, I was invited by the BTSS (Brain Tumour Society Singapore) to a public event, sharing my personal thoughts and experience on this brain surgery, and of course to share some magic. Do check out their website, www.braintumoursociety.org.sg , and social media channel, https://www.facebook.com/braintumoursociety/ , for more information.

For Life, I still have to go through a constant half yearly check up as well as daily pills to take. I am honestly grateful for all the medical treatment done on me as I have avoided “Seizure” for this entire year.

Let us all live our life to the fullest! Cheers!

The Magician’s Confession (Essay 5) – Life Elevation

Happy May Day everyone! Hope 2016 have been a great year filled with wonderful surprises for all!

During my most recent visit to meet Prof Yeo on 24th March 2016, he  mentioned a positive results from my recent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy combo. A shot of the MRI brain scan felt clear, showing a white base at the side, that represents the cancer brain cells portion which have been removed or transformed.

IMG_6625  MRI Brain Scan, 7th March 2016

Now, I am back to just taking daily pills of Keppra and Tramadol to prevent seizure attacks as well as covering the daily headaches. 6 months timeline is also required to fully recover from the chemotherapy treatment, and the radiation department have also warned me the 2 – 3 years depreciation of my brain’s ability too.

While planning my lifestyle this year, I’m thinking to take a year break since my last surgery on 16th October 2015, and return to local show business in November this year.

However, I felt glad to be contacted by 3 local event organisers for commercial shows in March 2016. I have to explain to them about my personal health condition as well as intention to change content for my new shows. Through discussions, they all accepted my proposal, and I am thankful to have this opportunity to hit the stage once more. It was great to meet up with friends from show business and I am thankful for their concern on my health.

Showtime On-stage and Off-stage in March 2016

Apart from performing in the month of March, I have also adapted a few projects as well as structuring a new simple website,  www.jeremypei.com. There is also a need to complete the yearly accounts and corporate documents for my “Pte Ltd” company.

While working on all these in March, I felt that I didn’t have the ability to complete each task smoothly, as well as making mistakes that causes stress as well as depression thoughts. I realised I am unable to live a positive life knowing that I didn’t have ability to complete projects like the way I use to do in the past. Nevertheless, I completed most tasks that are necessary by the end of March.

I’ve made a decision to rest for the entire month of April, and I am thankful for family and friends who shared that month with me.

In April 2016, I also had the opportunity to visit 2 more restaurants of my Food Idol, Gordon Ramsey, in Hong Kong and I’m looking forward to visit more in the world.

In March 2016, I’ve made a decision to never ask any on this question, “How many years do I have left?”.

Back in 2013, that was what I did, asking the number of years for each grade transformation till departure. The law of attraction actually did follow through the timeline which was given to me by Prof Yeo.

We never know what the future will become as we are living in the present state. Do value the people and moments in your life daily. Think Positive.

The Magician’s Confession (Essay 4) – Medical Graduation

I’m glad to announce that i have finally graduated from my chain of medical treatment last Friday, 29th January 2016.

IMG_5151

November 2015 Singapore Association of Magicians Monthly Meeting. Day 10 of my Radiation Process.

It is not 100% completed as I will only get to know the final results after all the attacks on my brains since surgery last year. The final results will be announced on 22nd of March 2016, and I am looking forward to see positive scores, therefore I could continue to live a productive life.

However, I was still recommended to see the Specialist 3 – 4 times yearly to monitor my situation. No offense, but I would certainly bargain to reduce the amount of medical appointments as I truly want to live the life of a normal human being.

As mentioned on previous post, my tumor was diagnosed as stage 3 during my surgery, therefore Prof Yeo had recommended me radiation and chemotherapy treatment combo.

I have previously done chemotherapy treatment structured with taking pills just for 5 days, followed by a 23 days process cycle, before testing my blood and review for the following month. This was done from March – October 2015.

The daily chemotherapy treatment which I’ve just completed were lower in dosage, however I have to be taking the pills daily, therefore the usual common side effects persisted during a 7 weeks process.

Hair Shaved Design to blend in with dropped patches

During this 7 weeks, I lived a completely differently lifestyle with the need to visit hospital for the radiation treatment daily as well as chemotherapy pills nightly. All seem well for the first 3 weeks during the treatment, however the 4th week onwards resulted in a huge loss of appetite, lack of energy both physically and mentally, as well as the dropping of hair on the left side of my head.

Looking back.

Ever since last year Jan, due to the sudden intense growth of tumor as well as common seizure attacks, I’ve since live like a sick patient. Even when most would usually comment that I look perfectly normal, which I had wanted to till the moment of departure, but I am certainly affected emotionally as well as unable to commit future plans.

Now that I have completed the biopsy surgery, 6 months chemotherapy in 2015, c-section surgery and the chemotherapy/radiation combo. Most processes could be done only once in life.

IMG_5489

Motivation gift card presented by the excellent radiation team during last treatment day.

I was suppose to be on 6 months Chemotherapy after this radiation combo, however my case have been adjusted as I already did that 6 months Chemotherapy last year while delaying surgery.

As mentioned on previous post, the intention of accepting surgery was to transform the thought of “Buying Time”, to the term of “Life Extension”. It has past 3 months since surgery and I’ve not encountered a single seizure attack.

I’m thankful for the life extended as well as looking forward to great MRI scan results in March 2016!

The Magician’s Confession (Essay 3) – 2015 Brain Recovery?

It just passed a month since my c-section surgery on 16th October 2015.

I have been warned, regarding the worst case of paralysed right body as well as mute communication. However, I felt blessed indeed that the moment I woke up from the hallucination surgery, I was able to talk and move my right arm and feet.

There was a case of my head and body feeling weaker, as well as my brain being unable to remember consistently like before. Thus the essay for today may read different then the past due to brain condition.

IMG_3887

Singapore Association of Magicians October 2015  Guest Night

As mentioned in previous post, the intention of this surgery was to transform the term of “Buying Time”, to the ideal results of ”Life Extension”.

Although i have delayed medical treatment as well as surgery for more then 2 years before seizure attacks came in, starting medication as well as did the biopsy surgery.

I personally felt that those 2 years were extremely productive, this decision of mine did make family members feel normal instead of the current situation of treating me as a sick patient.

Certainly, there are healthy individuals who do not agree with me on my thoughts. Partly,  many family members are the ones making final decisions for the sick patient, unlike my case where I am the one handling all medical decisions personally.

There are no returns indeed for anyone lifestyle, therefore we should appreciate all that has happened in the past despite current results.

After discharged from the hospital, I felt tough to regain personal strength as well as regular lifestyle activity. This condition warded me once again to the hospital for 4 days.

I was informed that it does take a while to recover from the surgery state, but I was shocked daily that I am somewhat not recovering each days.

It had past a month and somehow I am feeling better. I’ve even told family members in allowing me to drive my car for short distance, just to test if I am ready to handle a transportation journey.

All sounded great above, however I was informed a tragic news 2 weeks ago when meeting Prof Yeo, to discuss about my surgery results.

Over 80% of the tumour have been removed and tested, and it is now diagnosed as Grade 3 cancer unlike the results of February surgery when it was diagnosed as Grade 2.

IMG_4399

Results report received on 3rd November 2015

The first thought that came to my mind was the activity to do for my remaining years as I was ever informed about the length of remaining years for Grade 3 patients. I was convinced for the surgery partially cause my tumour growth was still Grade 2, hence am ready to recover and live a productive life.

However, I was immediately recommended chemotherapy once more with the addition of radiation too. I felt that the surgery have been wasted for life extension as it revealed this negative results, despite I encounter “nil” seizure attacks for the past month, which was a positive results as mentioned by consultants. However knowing a negative results did conflicted the sick patient lifestyle and emotions.

Thinking of this surgery case, the fact is that I have accepted the possibilities of me being half paralysed and mute after the surgery, I have somewhat convinced myself to live like a sick person after the surgery.

But I do wish to live normal so family members could also go through positive lifestyle, instead of having one at home laying on a bed and unable to live proper.

As I am unable to move proper for now, due to recovery from surgery. I have accepted Prof Yeo’s recommendation of radiation and chemotherapy once again.

Shall see what happen after this series of treatment and I certainly wish to live like a normal human being for as long as possible even knowing so that it may not be a lengthy one.
